Happy World Spay Day, ya filthy animals! Neutering Happy World Spay Day, ya filthy animals! Neutering (and vaccinating) dogs is at the centre of everything we do - it's the most sustainable way of keeping the street dog population down and the existing ones happy and healthy ✌️♥️ By the end of 2019, WECare had neutered 6,019 animals (and vaccinated 10,036!). We've only been able to do this thanks to donations from people like yourself, so THANK YOU! Our CNVR (catch-neuter-vaccinate-release) pop-up clinics are a great way of neutering and vaccinating en masse ✂️ but they're pretty expensive. Luckily, we have local businesses who often fund them in the tourist areas, but we're a bit stuck for funding elsewhere. We'd absolutely LOVE to be able to hold CNVRs in the local community so please get in touch if you or your business are interested in sponsoring one - you can remain anonymous or you can receive a very well-deserved shout out on social media. They cost around £1500 per day and we get through a loooooooooot of dogs. ****FUNDRAISING APPEAL**** Hi everyone. So we need ****FUNDRAISING APPEAL**** Hi everyone. So we need a little help. This beautiful girl is Abra who came in about 4 weeks ago having been hit by a car and unable to walk (this happens quite a bit here 🥺). We're happy to say that after cage rest and lots of physio she is now doing much better and is ready to go back home 🙌😘. That's the good news. The not so good news is that when we did a home inspection we found that although Abra lives with a lovely local family she also lives with 19 other dogs (🐕😳), many of whom are in need of some medical attention. The owners clearly care for these dogs but despite their best intentions they are struggling to cope. Most of the dogs are female and haven’t been neutered, and without our support this situation is only going to get worse (they are at it like little Sri Lankan 🐰’s 🙄🙄). We've done the maths and figured that to get this under control it is going to cost the clinic approximately £400 (or 95,000 LKR) which works out about £21 per dog. This would include neutering, vaccinating, treatment for mange, fleas, ticks and worms, transportation to and from the clinic, and would also cover the cost of Abra’s treatment while she has been an inpatient at the clinic 🐾🐾. We would really like to be able to help them and we know that Abra’s family would be incredibly grateful for anything we can do, so any support would be amazing 🙌. ** TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY ** CAKE*** This lovely b ** TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY ** CAKE*** This lovely boy came onto our radar early last November after reports that he had been hit by a scooter and was unable to walk. Locals reported that without being able to use his back legs Cake had been managing for four days by dragging himself around (in a lot of pain) before he gave up 🥺. Brought back to the clinic and given meds to make him more comfortable, X-rays quickly showed that Cake’s spine was badly broken and that his chances of walking again were pretty slim. (Swipe to see the x-rays😮.) Put onto cage rest, the clinical team kept an eagle eye on him for the next few days and kept their fingers crossed for any sign of improvement 🤞. Five or six days later with the pain seeming to subside, Cake (like a total boss) surprised us all when he manoeuvred himself up and into a stand💪🙌. With daily physio sessions he went from strength to strength, and the team were stunned when a couple of weeks later Cake was back in business, and was walking on his own 🐾. This dog is honestly an absolute miracle!! Cases like this are why we always give patients a sort of grace period, as x-rays don't always correlate with the clinical picture - and vice versa! Now out in the garden while he waits for a new home, you can hardly see Cake for dust as he spends his days running literal circles around the other dogs like the speed demon he is 😂💨.
