BIGGER IS BETTER
Lily has been at the hospital with us since March 2017. She was found by one of our original WECarers, Malaka, who picked her up in a nearby village. She’d collapsed at the side of the road and was almost unresponsive by the time she got to the hospital. Back then,‘the hospital’ was just one big room with no tables, sinks or walls. However, we had our initiative and a lot of the crucial kit that we needed so we set about treating Lily. She was severely dehydrated, pyrexic (had a fever), and began to seizure shortly after the examination. To top it all off, she had severe mange as well!
We set up a small isolation ICU for her using a piece of MDF propped against a wall, popped her on intravenous fluids, treated her seizures and pyrexia and prayed that she would make it through the night. We suspected she had distemper (an extremely serious and incurable viral disease) but we didn’t have any testing facilities available back then so couldn’t be sure. We slept on the floor next to her, waking to give her meds and check her status throughout the night. Miraculously she made it and made slow but steady progress in the following days. She was a really nervous girly to start with but soon became very loving and is now the most affectionate doggy in the hospital. She loves nothing more than human attention and it is so, so heartbreaking that we can’t find her a home.
She was a 16 week old puppy when she arrived with us and by the time she was feeling better and her hair had grown back she wasn’t a puppy anymore so had lost a lot of her appeal. She also isn’t the prettiest lady in the world but her character more than makes up for that fact! She is just AMAZING – incredibly loving, playful, loyal and one of the biggest lovers of belly rubs in the world! Having Lily at the hospital costs us a lot but there is currently no alternative.
We would absolutely love to have a sponsor owner for her so that she has a secure future with us. Of course, we will continue to hunt for her happy ever after but we would love to find her a virtual family in the meantime.
Could you be the one?
