The King of Gandara

Jeremy was found during a CNVR at Tangalle beach, back in early 2018. The poor gent had severe, chronic mange, a common condition for dogs here in Sri Lanka, caused by a skin infestation of itchy mites. We took Jezza along with us when we packed up and returned to the clinic, where he underwent treatment for his skin. After a successful recovery, Jeremy was all set to be returned home to his guardians and old stomping grounds, just over 20 kilometres away.

However, Jezza had other ideas. A short while later he was outside the hospital, sat expectantly waiting for cuddles and biscuits! We took a reluctant Jeremy home for a second time, but low and behold, he reappeared at the clinic!

By this point we realised Jeremy had no intention of leaving the free food and his new humans behind.  Adorned with a shiny red collar, he set about establishing his new territory in the village. These days, Jeremy can be found cruising through Gandara, between the temple and clinic. He is always ready and waiting to be our handsome escort to the bakery during lunch breaks. Jeremy has the best of both worlds, a resident of hotel WECare, he has all of the freedom of a street dog, with the luxury of his own private suite at the end of a hard day’s roaming! (He loves having some dinner and sleeping in our waiting room at night.)

While Jeremy is as far from needy as our residents get, he certainly doesn’t shy from the spotlight! Appearing alongside WECare founder Janey, in a New York Post feature and in Ben Fogle’s New Lives in the Wild, when he came to visit WECare.
