Meet Zoe

“Don’t look at me, I’m shy.”

Zoe’s story began in 2019 when she was dumped outside the clinic (a tale as old as time..) as a puppy with her littermates. With no room at the inn (we have to prioritise kennel space for emergency cases over litters of healthy puppies) we treated the pups as outpatients, neutering and vaccinating them, and treating them with preventatives. Street puppies often find their own territory and food source, but these guys stuck around, which became a problem as we already receive quite a few complaints about the dogs that hang around outside the hospital (what can we say? We’re popular!). Realising they needed rehoming, we took them along to a WECare adoption day where all three were snapped up — hurrah!

Sadly, a year later, Zoe was back at the hospital after being hit by a vehicle, injuring one of her hind legs. We later discovered that she had growth distortion on her back legs, which led to complications with the injured leg. Unfortunately, amputation was the only option, leaving Zoe a card-carrying member of the tripod squad. Having only three legs doesn’t stop dogs living their best lives, but it does make life slightly more dangerous for free-roaming dogs like Zoe. After a discussion with her owner, it was agreed that the area they lived in was too high-risk as she was still a young dog with very little road sense, so she moved into the WECare garden awaiting a safer home.

Four years later, she’s still with us, likely due to the fact that she has trust issues and is frightened of pretty much anything and everything — except her best pal, a fellow tripod called Jake. It takes this girl a loooooooong time to warm up to you (you’ll have to put up with a LOT of barking before you earn her love), but once she does, you’ve got a friend for life. Zoe’s grown into such a sweetheart whose main interests are mealtimes, her BFF Jake, and belly rubs from her chosen few.

Why not give this shy soul an ego boost by sponsoring her?
