MEET Guinness: The smooch bandit

Personal space? Never heard of it. Guinness is the boss of everything — your seat, your food, your face. Sit down near her and you’ll be subjected to an aggressive cuddling campaign followed by at least 47 licks to the eyeball. Resistance is futile.

She rules the resident dog garden with an iron paw, dominating her roommates, tearing around like a maniac, and inhaling her food like she hasn’t eaten since 2014. She might not always vibe with other dogs, but when it comes to humans? She’s obsessed. Expect full-body tail wags, chesty cuddles and more kisses than you ever asked for. You’ve been warned.

This girl will be your clingiest pen pal yet

D’ya fancy helping us provide for Guinness’s veterinary care, in exchange for pics and updates from her each quarter? Don't worry, she's never left alone with a phone so there's no danger of her spamming you.

GUINNESS'S STORY

This lovely lady was brought along to one of our CNVR days in 2022 with an injury to her right shoulder joint. Whisking her back to the hospital, X-rays confirmed she had a displaced fracture across her humerus that unfortunately couldn’t be fixed, resulting in a leg amputation.

Thankfully, our Guinness healed wonderfully, adapting perfectly to life as a tripod. The only issue was that once it was time for her to be discharged, she didn’t have a safe place to go back to. A couple of community members said they’d keep an eye on her, but the roads are hectic where she used to live and we didn’t think it wise for her to live there without a proper guardian or owner, so she moved into our resident dog garden to await rehoming.

Unfortunately, Guinness hasn’t had any takers (yet!), so will you be her pen pal until she does? She may have lost a leg but she didn’t lose a DROP of her spicy character, dominating the two dogs she shares the garden with like the boss lady she is, tearing around like a loon, and inhaling her food like she’s never had a meal in her life.

She might not always like other dogs, but she adoooooores her humans, dishing out an endless stream of smooches and cuddles. Just like a pint of the black stuff, our girl Guinness is sharp, refreshing, and moreish — we just can’t get enough!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

By sponsoring one of our resident dogs, not only are you funding their cushty life at WECare, but you’re also supporting our life-saving work for the street dogs of Sri Lanka. Did someone say ‘value for money’?

  • WHAT DOES MY SPONSORSHIP MONEY PAY FOR?

Your monthly donation covers your sponsor dog’s food, shelter, vet care (including preventatives), and staffing, ensuring they’re happy, healthy and loved until they find their forever home. Winner!

  • WHAT DO I GET IN RETURN?

Look forward to quarterly updates from your sponsored pup, including cute pictures and news about what they’ve been up to. You’ll also get little surprises like exclusive digital wallpapers, Christmas cards, and WECare anniversary cards — WAY better than junk mail. Oh, and the best part? That warm, fuzzy feeling from knowing you’re doing your bit to change the lives of street dogs. Can’t beat that one.

  • WILL I BE MY DOG’S ONLY SPONSOR?

Nope, it takes a village to care for these pooches, and we think our dogs deserve more than one pen pal each after what they’ve been through. We don’t have individual bank accounts for each dog (IMAGINE what they’d spend it on…) so any leftover money goes towards WECare’s vital work for the street dogs of Sri Lanka.

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE DOG I SPONSOR GETS ADOPTED?

As sad as it is to say goodbye, rehoming these adorable dogs is, of course, the goal. When that time comes we’ll be in touch to help you pick another absolute champ from the garden. (It’s hard to choose but don’t worry, we’ve got you.)

Welcome to Guinness's daily mayhem

Every morning, Guinness wakes up, finds a quiet corner of the garden, pops on her cooling eye mask and does a manifestation meditation. KIDDING. This girl wakes up and starts tearing about the garden, waking up all the other sleepy heads. Chill she is not...

Then it's time to start demanding breakfast — WHERE ARE THOSE HUMANS? Once her belly is full, she might have a quick nap before spending her day doing zoomies, eyeing up treats, and luring the team in for cuddles.
