Meet Erika

Don’t let the cute look fool you…

Erika the street pup rocked up in 2023 after getting injured in a road traffic accident. We found her at the side of the road with a serious leg injury, lying next to her siblings who had sadly passed away. Rushing her back to the hospital, we ended up having to amputate one of her back legs, but she’s adapted to tripod life like a little trooper after being nursed back to health by our staff. FYI, she was named Erika by our VCA, Pasindu (after a sassy Marvel character, naturally).

Now, we prefer to put dogs back on the street as it’s the most sustainable solution to the ole street dog issue, but that wasn’t appropriate in Erika’s case. Why? ‘cos she was a pup when she came in, so didn’t have the opportunity to finish her How to be a Street Dog diploma. So, she enrolled in our WECare resident dog programme, moving into the clinic garden while she awaited adoption.

She’d barely had a chance to unpack her things and start a ‘my new home’ Pinterest board before she was adopted by a mate of one of our staff members — wahoo! However, sadly the excitement was short-lived as she was returned less than 24 hours later for…getting into brawls with other dogs. FFS Erika! Sadly, she’s been in the garden ever since, playing a tiny violin while she waits to be chosen for her forever home.

We’ve got to know Erika pretty well and hiding beneath her cute and innocent face is a VERY feisty attitude; this girl knows how to show the other dogs who’s boss. (“It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me.”) However, we LOVE her sass and strong personality, and let’s be real — who of us isn’t a little Jekyll and Hyde?!

D’ya fancy receiving monthly updates from this tough little cookie until she finds a home?
