WECARE HAS 3 MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS

AS VETS, WE BELIEVE THAT NO ANIMAL SHOULD GO WITHOUT VETERINARY CARE, WHEREVER THEY ARE IN THE WORLD.

We will always go above and beyond to provide the very best care.

We believe all animals are equal, whether it’s a pet dog in the UK that gets treated to steak, or a Sri Lankan street dog that exists on rice and curry leftovers. As such, we don’t believe in cutting corners or giving sub-standard veterinary care ‘just’ because an animal is a street dog. AS well as treating street dogs, WECare operates as a regular veterinary hospital, offering heavily discounted treatment for locals and their pets, which promotes responsible animal ownership.  Check out what we offer at the WECare Hospital here.

We are not a shelter, we are a veterinary hospital.

Street dogs have been a part of Sri Lanka’s culture for generations so we believe in letting dogs live their best lives on the street, wherever possible and only intervene when veterinary care is required. The street/beach is what these dogs know and they are comfortable with. Who are we to swoop in and say it is wrong? Read more here.

Our progress .

We’ve gone from operating out of our founder Janey’s home, to having one of the best equipped veterinary hospitals on the island. To date, we have vaccinated 6898 dogs, neutered 4497 dogs and treated 4098 dogs around the Matara district and Arugam Bay area of Sri Lanka.
With three million dogs on the island, that seems like a drop in the ocean, but with your help, we can get those figures up.
